The start of a new year allows us to look back on 2021 as a great year for the harbour (despite the ongoing challenges of the pandemic!)

February saw us welcoming our new Harbour Controller, David Lavender to the team.

Jetstream Tours started regular sailings to Southend plus amazing round-the-island trips, whilst the fantastic X-Pilot: continued their incredible tours to the Red Sands Towers, including hosting many film crews and photoshoots.

During May, we completed our electrical upgrade, with us now able to offer visitors electric hook-up facilities, whilst June saw the start of our brand-new and hugely successful Harbour Market on the town quay, culminating in the popular Christmas Markets.

We said goodbye to the long-serving RNLI Trent Class Lifeboat, “George & Ivy Swanson” along with Coxswain of 40 years, Robin Castle MBE, but in her place, we welcomed the fantastic new RNLI Sheerness lifeboat Shannon Class , “Judith Copping Joyce”.

Our Classic Boat Festival returned in September, welcoming back a variety of stunning classic vessels, followed by the return of the annual Blessing of the Water service at Queenborough. Shortly after, the Autumn brought us delivery of our brand-new toilet block for visitors.

Phew! All of this whilst we continued with our ongoing harbour management, mooring maintenance and welcoming friends old and new. What an amazing team!

In 2021, we also said goodbye to Des Cross, who served the harbour well as Chairman of the Board. We thank Des for all his hard work – what a hard act to follow!

We look forward to another amazing year for Queenborough Harbour Trust. Here’s to smooth sailing in 2022…
