Queenborough Harbour Trust are very fortunate to have two well respected Patrons, each with strong links to boats and the sea.
Sailing legend Sir Robin Knox-Johnston. The first person to sail single handed and non-stop around the world between 14th June 1968 and 22nd April 1969. Sir Robin was Knighted in 1995 and has uniquely been the UK’s Yachtsman of the Year 4 times. He was ISAF sailor of the Year with Peter Blake in 1994, and in 2007 was one of the first 6 inductees into the ISAF Hall of Fame.Click here to visit Sir Robin’s website.
Yacht designer James Wharram. In the mid 50’s, based on his research into ancient Polynesian boat design, James Wharram built the first off-shore Catamaran in Britain and sailed it out into the Atlantic. While the world’s yachting community were still dismissing such a design as a worthy sea-going vessel, James was landing his 23’6″ ‘Double Hulled Canoe’ TANGAROA in the West Indies.
